Good old fashion rant
this post is very out of the blue, i figured instead of clogging up my timeline with fashion banter, i might aswell blog it since my readers would appreciate it more. a particular tweet caught my eye (in the picture above)
you can't argue to truth to these words. i remember a few months back a designer updated her facebook page saying she contacted a known Nigerian website on featuring her designs and they dismissed her designs as regular and sometime later after she had been featured in the british elle magazine, they contacted her saying they now understood her aesthetic. the main issue here is they saw value in her work after international approval. of course it is not uncommon in countries specially developing countries to appreciate a work more because of international recognition. but is this really right.
it is amazing that as our fashion industry is developing so is the politics within it growing. it is sad how we don't want to appreciate our own, negativity is in every corner of the industry, we are quick to criticise a questionable work than we are to appreciate the good ones.
i think for Nigeria not only the fashion industry to develop properly. we need to be more mature in our thinking and be more supportive of our nation as a whole. there is a whole lot more to be written but i'll keep this short by saying be Nigerian not only in your international passport but by your actions and thoughts. the power to move this country to the next level lies in our hands..

5 items that will give your wardrobe a pop!!
As another month is coming to an end, salaries and allowance have people thinking on how to spend their money. I'm no financial expert but I know how we walk into a shop and later regret most of our purchases. I hate being in that position even though I recommend every once in a while impulse buying. Here are the lists of things you might not have realized but will go a long way in transforming your look.
1) BROOCH
They come in all sorts of design and colours plus they are easy on the pocket. you can wear it the classic way which is on the lapel of a blazer or through the holes of your skinny belt right next to the buckle. You could even gather a bunch of necklaces and pin them together with a brooch or tie a scarf in form of a headband and pin the brooch to hold it up.
there are lots of ways to incorporate a brooch to your look.
2) COLOURED/TEXTURED/PATTERNED BLAZER
Unlike what most people think, these blazers would go with most even of outfits if co-ordinated well. wear it with a frill dress or lbd or even a prim pencil skirt or denim. It will bring a new statement to your outfit. Personally I love the red blazer paired with gold and black chunky accessories.

4) CARDIGANS
Yes! even with our weather, you can rock cardigans, the light material ed ones though. I'll advise you stay away from the embellished one as they are not as versatile as most, if you don't want the regular plain cardigans, you could go for striped ones like the one in the picture or just pin a brooch to it. they come in long sleeve, quarter sleeve or no sleeves so they can be worn with almost anything. if you choose to leave the buttons open, wear a skinny belt over it for a more defined look.
5) FEDORA HAT
As seen on mo cheddah in my last post. fear not, you don't need a professional stylist to know how to rock this look. Wear it with a maxi or mini dress or jeans. It is a casual look, please DO NOT wear it for a formal event as I've seen many Nigerian celebs sporting it on the red carpet. a brooch can also be pinned to it to give it a twist.

Some months ago, while i was still toying with the idea of starting up a blog, I was opportuned to be at an event that held important people in the media industry. after struggling to muscle up courage, I walked upto one of them, a journalist (name withheld). she was very friendly as i introduced myself, we chatted for like a minute and then she said "oh! so you are one of those fashion bloggers" and i was like yeah and she said "hmm, i don't do fashion interviews, i'm a journalist, i report on important things" as she was saying this my eye took a brief roam n spotted a lovely necklace and simple grey dress not to mention the shoes and the bag. I was confused there for a second, as this was not my first time seeing her. she was always looking gorgeous and impeccably dressed in the magazines. This was some time ago so i don't remember her exact words. but what i got from the conversation was fashion was a vain matter not to be given much thought to.
I thought about this on my way home, how can someone so stylish be so non-challant about fashion. the fashionista in me took offence but the being the rational being that I am, I have come to understand that not everyone appreciates fashion and all the work that goes into the sketching, designing, tailoring, not to mention the research designers carryout to ensure each collection is appealing and tasteful to the wearer.
Nevertheless, I love fashion and the beauty and creativity of it all and how it enables one to express oneself without so much as a word. A medium to seperate oneself from other people, easiest form of communication. many many more reasons but i'll hold myself for now or at least till my next article.
